PROOFAIPRIVACY
ProofAI checks the text field you are typing in for spelling, grammar, punctuation and style issues, and underlines what it finds. This policy covers the extension only, not the sites you use it on.
// 01WHAT WE PROCESS
The text in the field you are typing in (between 10 and 3,000 characters) is sent for checking:
- /Only while the checker is turned on, and only on sites you haven’t blocked.
- /After a short pause in typing — not on every keystroke.
- /Never from password fields: ProofAI runs only on text areas, editable areas, and text, email, search and URL inputs.
The text you type is not stored by the extension. Use Block Site or turn the checker off where you type sensitive information.
// 02HOW REQUESTS REACH THE AI
- /YOUR OWN OPENAI KEY — If you add your own OpenAI API key in settings, requests go directly from your browser to OpenAI. The key is sent only to OpenAI, and we never receive your text, the results or the key.
- /FREE TIER — Without a key, requests go through our relay (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards them to OpenAI using our key. The relay does not log or store your text or the results. To enforce daily free limits it keeps a request count per random install ID and per IP address, deleted automatically within about 48 hours.
- /PRO — With a Pro subscription, your license key is sent with each request so the relay can apply Pro limits. The relay checks it with Dodo Payments and stores only a one-way hash of the key with its request count and activation record.
// 03STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
- /THIS DEVICE ONLY — Your OpenAI API key and Pro license key, if you add them.
- /CHROME SYNC — If you use Chrome Sync, these settings sync between your own browsers: on/off, check delay, English variant and style preference, blocked sites, your personal dictionary, and counts of fixes applied.
// 04WHAT WE DON’T DO
- /Sell, share or log your text.
- /Collect analytics, browsing history or advertising profiles.
- /Require an account — the only identifier is the random install ID used to count free-tier requests.
// 05THIRD PARTIES
- /OPENAI — Processes the text you send to generate the result — under your own OpenAI account, or ours on the free tier and Pro. Governed by OpenAI’s privacy policy and terms.
- /CLOUDFLARE — Hosts the relay that passes free-tier and Pro requests to OpenAI.
- /DODO PAYMENTS — Our merchant of record for Pro subscriptions. Handles checkout, billing and license keys; we never see your card details.
// 06CHILDREN
ProofAI is not directed at children under 13, or the applicable age in your country. We do not knowingly collect data from children — if you believe we have, contact us so we can delete it.
// 07CHANGES
We may update this policy from time to time, posting the new version with an updated date. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
